Nordstrom Anniversary Sale women’s fashion

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale women’s fashion

I’ve been shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and in all honesty, I think the selection is a big improvement over the last several years. I’m seeing a lot of good, wearable wardrobe basics. And within that subset, more variety. Today I’m reviewing some of the items I’ve purchased, along with sizing information.

Yes, there’s a lot of brown here. It’s one of my best neutrals, and isn’t always widely available. Sticking to my own advice of “buy it when you find it,” I’m taking advantage of the sale prices to add pieces that will have staying power in my wardrobe. Most of these items were still available as of Friday. If not, don’t forget to bookmark or add to your wish list and keep checking back for restocks.

I didn’t do a lot of “styling,” as I wanted to show how everything fits as-is.

Modern, casual, classic outfit builders

Susan B. wears a Caslon cotton cardigan, rag & bone cuffed Dre jeans and brown Dolce Vita mules from Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.Nordstrom Anniversary Sale women’s fashion
CARDIGAN | JEANS | LOAFER MULES
I’m wearing: Cardigan – Small, Jeans – 28
(those are Bella’s paws you see behind me…she likes to hang out behind me while I’m taking outfit photos)

This striped Pima cotton cardigan (Caslon) is a nice medium weight which will be perfect for fall or cool evenings at the beach. It’s also available in navy with white stripes and ivory with navy stripes. I think it runs a little large. I’m wearing the Small which feels slightly too big for me, have the X-Small on order.

The necklace (Lizzie Fortunato) is currently sold out, but again, check for restocks during the sale.

I’m quite pleased with these rag & bone cuffed jeans. In this photo above, they’re the original length. (I subsequently cut off about 1.5 inches, and re-cuffed them.) They are true-to-size for a slouchy fit. If you prefer a slimmer fit, you might want to size down.

I’m also pleased with these Dolce Vita loafer mules. This is the brown crinkle patent, but they’re available in several other finishes, and well under $100 during the sale! They’re easy to walk in and run true-to-size.

Satin shirt, snazzy slingbacks

I was also quite impressed with this satin blouse from Rails. The fabric is substantial and feels silky. (It’s a viscose/rayon blend.) I ordered both the Small and X-Small. Both fit but the Small gave me a little more room around the hips to be able to do a half-tuck.

Detail: Susan B. wears a Rails satin shirt untucked to show length.Detail: Susan B. wears a Rails satin shirt untucked to show length.

Here’s how it fits untucked, (I’m 5’1″.) I’ll probably have it shortened.

These Vince slingback flats are winners too. They’re quite comfortable and can dress up or down. I’ll treat them with stain- and waterproofing spray. The strap has elastic for easy on/off, but isn’t too loose or too snug around the back of the ankle. As with most Vince shoes, sizing down to a 7 (from my usual 7.5) was a good call and the fit is perfect. These are also still available in black leather and navy suede.

Coated denim & lightweight sweater

I’m really smitten with this Vince sweater! I’m always on board for an elbow-sleeve sweater, and this one does not disappoint. It’s a very soft and light wool-cashmere blend. It’s fitted enough to go under a jacket, but not clingy. I’m wearing size Small, which is my usual in fitted sweaters. It’s also available in Charcoal, and dark navy. (Most sizes/colors still available.)

At the moment, these coated denim L’Agence pants are showing as sold out, but over the last couple of days I’ve seen some sizes intermittently back in stock. If you’re set on them, you might get lucky if you keep checking back. They’re quite comfortable and run true-to-size.

Here are 3 pants with a similar look:
BlankNYC | Veronica Beard | Liverpool Los Angeles

🐆 🐆 🐆 Ballet flats!

I hadn’t given these a second look online as the image made them look dark and muddy. But when I saw them in the store….wow! 😍 They’re from Paul Green, so have a bit more support and cushioning than most ballet flats. Also available in Black leather and Chili (warm red) suede, they run true-to-size. (If you have a wide foot, you may want to go up 1/2 size.)

What I returned:

I’m waiting on delivery of a couple more items, will review those once I receive.

“All skate” access to the sale starts Monday, so get your wish list ready to go. Have you found anything good in the sale this year?

After national search, SLO names new city manager — from right here on Central Coast

After national search, SLO names new city manager — from right here on Central Coast

San Luis Obispo has a new top administrator — and she’s a familiar face.

The city announced Friday after nationwide search it has hired interim city manager and former assistant city manager Whitney McDonald to fill the position permanently.

“During our very thorough recruitment process, it became clear that Whitney is the right person to lead and elevate our organization into the future,” Mayor Erica Stewart said in a news release. “She brings an impressive breadth of experience serving public sector agencies for the past 17 years and has a depth of knowledge in housing, land use, development and environmental issues.

“Her local expertise and action-oriented, problem-solving style will help us address the most important challenges facing our city as well as implement our ambitious Major City Goals.”

McDonald will replace former city manager Derek Johnson, who left the city in April.

According to the release, as city manager, McDonald will be responsible for a staff of more than 480 employees and a total budget of about $225 million. She will be in charge of hiring city staff, managing the budget, overseeing day-to-day operations and “carrying out the policy direction of the City Council.”

McDonald was selected from a pool of 59 qualified candidates from multiple states, according to the release.

“Whitney distinguished herself in that impressive pool and gained the unanimous support of the council to serve as the San Luis Obispo’s next city manager,” Stewart said. “We are excited to work with Whitney to continue engaging and serving our community well.”

McDonald joined the city in August 2023 as assistant city manager, overseeing the city’s Community Services Group and working to “ensure that the city delivered efficient and effective services and capital projects to the San Luis Obispo community,” the release said.

Prior to that, she served as community development director and then city manager in Arroyo Grande.

“I am truly honored to serve in this role as San Luis Obispo’s city manager and look forward to deepening partnerships with community members, businesses and regional partners,” McDonald said in the release. “We have a lot to do together, and I am eager to continue working with the community, the City Council and city staff to accomplish our strategic goals.”

According to the release, McDonald has already signed her conditional offer. The final employment contract with start date will be formally adopted at the City Council’s regular public meeting Aug. 20.

According to videos doing social media rounds, the Kardashian sister duo once again opted for custom-made Manish Malhotra garments and jewellery for Saturday’s event after relying on the celebrity favourite designer for Anant and Radhika’s nuptials.

Kim was dressed in a stylised and embroidered dusty rose sheer saree, Khloe looked resplendent in a rani pink lehenga choli. Both shared reels on their Instagram Stories admiring their outfits and “insane” diamond jewellery.

Brother-sister duo Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor appeared in a colourful bandhgala suit and a black saree, respectively. Filmmaker Karan Johar made an appearance with best friend and CEO of his Dharma Productions banner Apoorva Mehta.

The celebrations will continue with a grand reception on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi blessed the newly-wed couple Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant after their star-studded wedding.

Modi arrived at the Ambani family-owned Jio World Convention Centre here for a wedding reception that has been titled ‘Shubh Aashirwad’.

Anant, the youngest son of Mukesh Ambani — Asia’s richest man — and Radhika, a pharmaceutical heiress, touched Modi’s feet to seek his blessings.

Modi was received by Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani and was escorted into the venue where hosts of celebrities, film stars, cricketers, business tycoons, and politicians had assembled.

The marriage on Friday culminated months of pre-wedding events in India and abroad.

The guests invited for the reception on Saturday were almost similar to the ones who attended the wedding a day before.

Former British Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Boris Johnson; and Saudi Aramco CEO Amin H Nasser were also on the guest list.

Politicians who attended the wedding included Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, his deputies Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, his wife Dimple and Shiv Sena (UBT) head Uddhav Thackeray.

The best Prime Day deals on tech available now from Apple, Bose, Samsung and more

The best Prime Day deals on tech available now from Apple, Bose, Samsung and more

Amazon Prime Day 2024 is officially a couple of days away now and we’re starting to see even more early Prime Day deals pop up. This was expected: Amazon may deem July Prime Day a two-day event, but for years, the online retailer has hosted lead-up deals in order to drum up excitement for the main event.

Most early Prime Day deals are exactly that — early discounts that only Prime members can access — but every once in a while there are some discounts available to all. We’ve collected the best early Prime Day deals here, along with the rest of the best discounts on our favorite gadgets that anyone can get from Amazon right now. We’ll be updating this post regularly, so check back to see the latest discounts.

As a reminder (and for the uninitiated): Engadget treats tech deals with the same care as we would “regular” tech news. When we scour the web for deals, we’re looking not only for the best prices possible, but also the best products as well. Our goal with our deals coverage, especially surrounding events like Amazon Prime Day, is to surface only the best deals we can find on the gadgets we’ve tested and rated highly, or that we’ve used and know to be worth your money.

Apple

The base 13-inch M2 MacBook Air has dropped to a record low of $799. This was already our favorite budget MacBook and now it’s an even better deal at this price.

While you can get the technically more powerful M3 MacBook Air now, most people won’t notice the performance differences between the two. If you’re coming from an older, Intel-based MacBook, any M-series machine will feel like a big upgrade. This M2 laptop excels thanks to its stellar performance, excellent screen and thin-and-light design.

Apple released the new iPad Air models with the M2 chip back in May and right now, the larger 13-inch model with 128GB of storage is available for a record-low price of $749, down from $799. The M2 iPad Air is our choice for 2024’s best overall iPad.

Apple’s new slate earned a 91 in our review because it’s powerful, capable and has a great-looking screen. It doesn’t have the top-of-the-line features and performance of the new iPad Pros — but the Air is nearly $500 cheaper.

$749 at Amazon

Apple

Apple’s 9th-gen iPad is on sale for $249 right now, which is close to its record-low price. There’s a big caveat for this deal, though: Apple’s phasing this model out in favor of the 10th-gen iPad being its base tablet now. But if you’re comfortable snagging an older model, this is a good deal to consider. You’re getting a 10.2-inch display here, along with a physical Home Button with TouchID and an A13 Bionic chipset.

$249 at Amazon

Apple

The latest stylus for iPads, the Apple Pencil Pro is currently on sale for $119 on Amazon. That’s just $10 lower than its original price, but does happen to be the first discount on the new accessory since it’s launch last month. The new Pencil Pro recognizes squeezes, which can trigger actions like bringing up app-specific tool palettes and shortcuts, and gives you haptic feedback as you use it. It can also detect rolling the barrel for more precision as you draw.

$119 at Amazon

Apple

Apple’s third-gen AirPods are on sale for $139. These buds came out in 2021 and massively improved upon their predecessors with better sound quality, a more comfortable design and a six-hour battery life.

Also on sale are the second-gen AirPods for $79. These are arguably only best for those who are on a tight budget and want to spend as little as possible to get a pair of AirPods.

$139 at Amazon

Amazon

Amazon’s smallest smart speaker, the Echo Dot, has dropped to $25 for Prime Day. It’s one of the best smart speakers you can get right now thanks to its compact design, physical button controls that compliment voice commands and its solid sound quality for its size.

$25 at Amazon

Amazon

The revived Echo Spot is already on sale for Prime Day, down to just $45 for Prime members. The new model has improved audio quality and a sharper display, but notably absent is a built-in camera. That makes it better for more privacy-conscious folks; just not that you won’t be able to video chat with it like you can with other Amazon smart displays.

$45 at Amazon

Amazon

The Amazon Echo Show 5 is on sale for $50 right now. It’s one of our favorite smart displays thanks to its compact design, ambient light sensor and sunrise alarm feature, all of which make it an excellent smart alarm clock. Amazon improved the speaker quality on this latest model, which gives sound deeper bass and clearer vocals.

$50 at Amazon

Amazon

Amazon’s most powerful streaming dongle, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, has dropped to a record low of $35 for Prime Day. In addition to support for 4K HDR content, this streaming device also supports Dolby Vision and Atmos and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. It also has more memory than less expensive Fire TV sticks and it comes with an Alexa Voice Remote.

$35 at Amazon

Ring

The second-gen Ring Indoor Cam has dropped to a record-low price for Prime Day. The latest model of the camera allows you to get a live look at what’s going on in your home from wherever you are with 1080p HD video. There’s color night vision support as well.

This version isn’t battery powered, so you’ll still need to place it near an outlet. But it does come with a swivel mount, so you’ll have a little more flexibility when it comes to the camera’s point of view.

$30 at Amazon

Amazon

Similar to the Amazon Music Unlimited deal above, Prime members who’ve never subscribed to Audible Premium Plus can get three months of the audiobook service for free. A membership normally costs $14.95 per month after a one-month free trial, so this is a roughly $30 discount. As a refresher, Audible Premium Plus gives access to a big library of on-demand audiobooks, podcasts and other content, plus a monthly credit you can use to permanently buy a title in the Audible store.

The service will be most worthwhile if you tend to burn through audiobooks quickly; if you’re on the fence, this extended trial should make it easier to see if you’d get any use out of it. Remember that your service will auto-renew at the standard price after the trial period ends until you cancel.

$0 at Amazon

Amazon

If you’re an Amazon Prime member who has never subscribed to Amazon Music Unlimited, you can now get five months of the music streaming service for no cost as any early Prime Day deal. If you’re a new user who doesn’t have Prime, you can get a three-month free trial. The service normally gives a one-month free trial then costs $10 per month for those who subscribe to Prime and $11 per month for those who don’t.

Music Unlimited isn’t a formal recommendation in our guide to the best music streaming apps: Its interface isn’t as tidy or smartly curated as that of Apple Music, our top pick, and we’ve found it to be a bit aggressive about promoting podcasts you may not care about.

That said, it’s hard to beat free, and the service has more or less the same giant music library as its peers. It also supports lossless streaming, unlike Spotify, which is a nice plus for audiophiles with high-quality wired headphones. If you just want to save a bit of cash on your music streaming for a few months, it should do the job. Just remember to cancel when the free trial ends, as your subscription will be set to auto-renew by default.

$0 at Amazon

Amazon

Amazon Prime members can get three months of Kindle Unlimited for free in this Prime Day deal. With this subscription, you get access to a library of millions of books, comics and magazines to read for free. There are also some audiobooks included as well; just make sure to cancel before the free trial is up if you don’t want to get charged full price on the fourth month.

$0 at Amazon

Blink

You can get a two-pack of Blink Mini 2 security cameras for only $40 right now. They’re now better equipped to capture video outside, and they still support 1080p video, motion detection and two-way talk.

$40 at Amazon

Amazon

Amazon’s Fire TV Soundbar is $20 off and down to $100, which is the best price we’ve seen all year. It’s best paired with a Fire TV device or a standalone Fire TV, and it supports surround sound with DTS Virtual:X, and Dolby Audio.

$90 at Amazon

Amazon

The 43-inch and 55-inch Amazon Fire Omni QLED smart TVs are up to 25 percent off right now. The 43-inch model is the most affordable, down 20 percent with a final price of $360 for Prime members. These TVs support 4K HDR10+ content with Dolby Vision IQ, hands-free Alexa, Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity and the Fire TV ambient experience.

$360 at Amazon

Soundcore

The Anker Soundcore Space A40 earbuds have returned to a low of $59, that’s a savings of $21 over the full price. We named these our top pick for a budget-friendly set of buds because they provide features like EQ adjustment, splash-resistance, active noise cancellation and a decent transparency mode. Plus the sound itself is pleasant and warm.

$59 at Amazon

Ninja

The Ninja Creami ice cream maker has dropped to $150 for Prime Day, which is close to the best price we’ve seen. This model includes seven programs including ice cream, gelato and sorbet, and it comes with one pint container for you to make and store your creations.

In our Ninja Creami review, we gave the machine a score of 90 for its ease of use and the fact that it’s parts are mostly machine-washable. There’s also just a plethora of treats you can make with this device, so it will likely be a mainstay on your countertop if you love frozen desserts.

$150 at Amazon

Breville

The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is $100 off right now and down to $300. It’s got a larger footprint than the other top picks on our best air fryers list, but for some that will be a perk. If you cook often, entertain frequently or have a big family to make meals for, this multi-purpose air fryer will come in handy.

In addition to being able to fit an entire, 14-pounds turkey, the Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro has space for a five-quart dutch oven and a 9×13-inch pan. It supports a number of other cooking modes other than air fry, like bake, broil, toast, dehydrate and more, and you can download its companion app to follow along with guided recipes.

$300 at Amazon

Shark

This Shark AI Ultra robot vacuum is half off and down to only $300 right now. A version of one of our top picks for the best robot vacuums, it supports cleaning schedules and home mapping, plus it comes with a self-emptying base that can hold up to 60 days worth of debris. The base is also bagless, so you don’t have to buy and replace proprietary garbage bags in it over time.

$295 at Amazon

SAMSUNG

The beige color of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+ is down to a near record-low price of $799, or $200 off. We consider the entire S9 series of tablets to be some of the best you can buy right now thanks to their solid performance, IP68-rated design, excellent optional accessories and handy Dex mode for multitasking.

$799 at Amazon

Bose

These Bose true wireless earbuds are down to $189 right now. That’s $90 off their usual price. The Bose QuietComfort Ultra earbuds are a bit newer, but these are still solid buds with excellent noise cancellation for the price.

$189 at Amazon

Photo by Daniel Cooper / Engadget

Our top pick for a Wi-Fi 6E mesh system is TP-Link’s Deco XE75, and right now, it’s on sale for just $290 with a $60 coupon for a pack of three. That’s the lowest price we’ve tracked, taking $160 off the set’s list price. We like how it balances power and user-friendliness, bringing fast connections to places in your home that may have been spotty before.

$290 at Amazon

Amazon Prime Day 2024 lands on July 16 and 17 this year. The shopping event focuses on exclusive deals for Prime members, which means you’ll have to be a Prime subscriber on Prime Day to take advantage of most of the savings. Amazon still offers a 30-day free trial to new Prime subscribers, so you can start your free trial now to participate in the event.

No, but Prime Day usually happens during the summertime in the United States. In recent years, Amazon has held a second sale event in the fall as well, dubbed October Prime Day, which is similar to the summertime sale.

Amazon Prime Day focuses on exclusive deals available only to Prime members. However, if you don’t pay for Prime and have no intention of doing so, you should still check out Amazon on Prime Day for sales that are available to all shoppers — there are always a few of them.

Facebook lifts curbs on Donald Trump, giving him equal footing with Biden | World News

Facebook has lifted restrictions imposed on Donald Trump after the Jan 6 attack on the Capitol, placing the former president on an equal footing on the platform with President Joe Biden just days before the Republican National Convention.

The social media giant had initially banned the former president from using its platforms in 2021 after his supporters stormed the Capitol. Meta, Facebook’s parent company, lifted that ban last year but announced Trump would be subject to guardrails such as “heightened suspension penalties if posts violated its standards.

Now, the company has removed those restrictions, reasoning that while they were put in place following the extreme and extraordinary circumstances of the Capitol attack, Trump had not done anything to run afoul of them.

In assessing our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe that the American people should be able to hear from the nominees for President on the same basis, Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of global affairs wrote in a statement posted to the company’s website Friday.

Clegg added that both Biden and Trump are still subject to the same community standards that apply to all other users of the company’s platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.

Facebook, the world’s largest social media site, had been both a publicity tool and a crucial place to tap donations from supporters for both of Trump’s previous campaigns.

These days, however, he has been posting frequently on his own Truth Social site, which he launched after Facebook and others suspended him.

Sikandar Raza becomes first-ever cricketer to achieve these 2 historic milestones

Zimbabwean skipper Sikandar Raza scored a crucial 48 off 28 balls in the final few overs during their innings in the fourth T20I against India. Courtesy of his quickfire knock, Zimbabwe went past 150  and ended up with a score of 152.

Zimbabwe got to their last fifty off just 26 balls with Raza playing some delightful shots. His knock included two fours and three sixes as he played with a strike rate of over 160.

During his knock, he joined an elite list of all-rounders who have scored over 2000 runs and taken 50 wickets in T20I international cricket. He is the fifth all-rounder after Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Nabi, Virandeep Singh, and Mohammad Hafeez who has scored over 2000 runs and taken 50-plus wickets in T20I cricket. Notably, he became the first-ever cricketer to achieve that feat among Zimbabwe players.

Sikandar Raza Joins Elite List Of All-Rounders

2551, 149 – Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh)
2165, 96 – Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan)
2320, 66 – Virandeep Singh (Malaysia)
2514, 61 – Mohammad Hafeez (Pakistan)
2001, 65 – Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe)

Shakib led the tally with 149 T20I wickets and 2551 runs. Nabi is second on the list with 96 wickets and 2165. Virandeep Singh’s tally of 2320 runs and 66 wickets came in just 78 matches which points at an impressive strike rate and average and Raza went past 2000 T20I runs in his 90th match and also has 65 T20I wickets.

Sikandar Raza also became the first Zimbabwean cricketer to score 2000 T20I runs. He also is the second-highest wicket-taker for them with 65 wickets. Raza has been the torchbearer for Zimbabwe cricket for nearly a decade now.

He was nominated as the T20I cricketer of the year in 2023 after splendid stats with both bat and ball. He scored 515 runs from 11 games, while also adding 17 wickets at an economy of 6.57. He scored nine fifties last year out of his 11 innings.

In 2024 unfortunately, he led Zimbabwe in the qualifiers of the T20 World Cup 2024 but failed to take them to the T20 World Cup 2024. Zimbabwe needed to reach the final of the African qualifiers. However, they faced losses to Namibia and Uganda and it was those two teams who qualified for the T20 World Cup knocking the favourites to qualify out of the tournament.

It wasn’t the first time that they didn’t qualify for T20 WC as earlier in 2009 and 2021 they could not qualify for the tournament due to a withdrawal and suspension. Raza lamented the fact that he could not lead his team to qualification in the major ICC event.

Heading into this series against India, Zimbabwe lost to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the T20I series under Raza’s captaincy.

Pupil size can help diagnose conditions such as concussion
