Wide legged trousers is this month’s theme. On trend, especially the denim versions. I never wore wide legged trousers because didn’t like how they looked on me. But since I tried the one I am wearing in this post, I am all for them! Let’s see who else love to wear wide legged trousers!
It is a collage of outfits from all different women! You can choose yourself whether you want to show a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye ( which is an item you are going to say good bye to). We’ll keep buying a Bad Buy from now and then, you know, it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted(needed) to buy something etc.
But of course we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have had for years and that you wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday, and every time you wear it you get that holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to send in. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide a theme for each month!
So let’s start with The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Wide legged trousers!
I absolutely loved the minty color and the floral print of these wide leg trousers from Shein. But gosh, the fabric was absolutely hideous and basically unwearable. I didn’t say Good-Bye to them, however. Instead, I chopped them up and added the pretty floral bits to my In the Garden Rag Curtain. And I never bought another thing from Shein either. Too gross.
I love wide leg pants in the summer so have have several lightweight pairs. This is a new addition this year: the print is so fun and the leg really wide!
I’ve had these flower wide leg jeans for at least 5 years now and I still adore them. They are much better for our AZ weather since they are lightweight.
I just bought this new wide leg pants on Amazon and wore them to a comedy show and dinner over Labor Day weekend here in the states. WOW! I can already tell these are going to be such a great buy! I LOVE them. The fabric is so soft and the colors are so fun with lots of shades of blue and green and white. I paired it with a flowy teal top, some silver jewelry and my flip flops. I felt so comfy and yet felt like I looked nice and dressed up.
I bought this co-ord for a hen weekend and loved the whole vibe. It’s the perfect outfit for summer holidays, bbq’s or a lunch date. Think it will work well in Autumn too.
It’s previous season from New Look.
And here are my wide legged trousers
As I had a vacation I didn’t have time to shoot new photo’s. So this is one of the archives. These are my first wide legged trousers and I loved them a lot! I never wore wide legged trousers before, they don’t really look that good on me. It also isn’t my colour at all, but these trousers were so good. I worn them until they got ugly! A very Good Buy.
October’s theme will be: Long cardigans!
Send your photo with a few sentences if it is a Good Buy or a Good-Bye and we will put you in the spotlights! Send it please before the 10th of each month to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to batennancy@gmail.com
By joining The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, you agree to receive a monthly reminder email for next month!
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m working on building a new little community, following the deaths of my mother, my long-distance best friend, and my father. This involves making an effort. To get to know people you have to meet them, and to meet them you have to find them, and to find them you often have to go somewhere, but so far so good. I like people.
The only hard part is what we used to call, when I was a young mother, “play bids.” That moment sharing an activity with others when you have to find some way to indicate you’d be open to hanging out. I haven’t had a lot of practice. I never dated much, and back when boys did the asking. The last time I grew a new community was when my children were young, and mother’s groups and school functions pretty much did it for me.
I’m practicing now. And the point of practicing, on top of getting to a goal, is to learn. Here’s my insight: at the ripe very-late-middle-age of 67 going on 68 I have realized that people don’t usually want my advice. Brilliant, right?
No shade on the caliber of that advice. It’s decent. Only that I’ve realized if I like someone I often lead with, “Can I help you solve your problem? That thing that you don’t even know is a problem?” Which is very Sturdy Gal, being of service, but not per se the most fruitful course.
The premise that to enter a relationship one must be of service might be valuable, but nobody wants advice unless they ask for it. They may want help, another kind of service, but sometime an offer of help feels intrusive. Is laughter a service? Maybe, but one person’s joke is another person’s credo. Tricky. What do people want from each other?
After decades of being sought after for either thinking/words or my waist-to-hip ratio, I am now considering the idea that what most people want from others is to be seen and heard. To be kept agreeable company. Quite Nature of Being and all that, where existence is enough. Words optional.
I could be embarrassed to talk about this new community process, as it feels vulnerable, but I’ve decided to drop shame. Not useful; not Sturdy, and besides we’re in this together. I put the question to you all. If you consider the relationships you’ve made later in life, can you characterize the transaction, if we can call it that? What did you offer, openly or implied? And what was offered in return?
“Why are friends?” perhaps verges alarmingly on, “Why are people?” but let’s live dangerously. Thoughts?
Hey Gurls! Today, I’m excited to share with you J.Jill’s Fall Capsule Wardrobe. I know many of you are looking for versatile style, comfort, and pieces that work effortlessly into your existing closet, and J.Jill never disappoints. After receiving their email featuring the capsule collection, I couldn’t resist! So, I ordered all the pieces and took a few photos to show you just how easy it is to style them.
What is a capsule wardrobe, and why would someone want to create one?
A capsule wardrobe is like having a mini closet filled with just your favorite, most versatile pieces. It’s made up of clothes that go together easily, so you can mix and match without overthinking it. The idea is to simplify your life and always have something stylish to wear, without being buried under tons of clothes. It’s perfect if you want to spend less time picking outfits and more time enjoying your day!
How many items should a capsule wardrobe include?
When it comes to the number of items in a capsule wardrobe, the choice is yours. Typically, a capsule wardrobe consists of 20 to 40 items, but this is not a strict rule. The key is to have enough versatile pieces that you can mix and match to create different outfits. Consider jackets, tops, pants, and accessories that all complement each other.
Should you invest more in a capsule wardrobe or look for affordable items?
While it’s beneficial to invest a bit more in your capsule wardrobe, it’s not necessary to break the bank. High-quality pieces do last longer and maintain their appearance, but you can also incorporate more affordable items. A mix of investment pieces and budget-friendly options is a savvy way to build your wardrobe without overspending.
What’s the process for creating a capsule wardrobe?
Ready to start creating your capsule wardrobe? Begin by going through your closet and selecting your favorite pieces—the ones you wear most often. Look for items that can be easily mixed and matched, such as a great pair of jeans or a cozy sweater. Stick to a color scheme that makes pairing together easy, and fill any gaps with some quality basics. Before you know it, you’ll have a wardrobe that works for you, not against you!
J.Jill’s Fall Capsule Wardrobe
I love this neutral-on-neutral look for fall! The Caramel Double-Knit Blazer adds just the right amount of structure to the outfit, while the olive wide-leg pants keep things comfortable and relaxed. Paired with pointed-toe boots, this look is perfect for a casual day out or even a lunch date with Joe! The mix of textures and colors really brings it all together.
You know I love a good blazer because it instantly elevates any outfit. This double-knit blazer (I’m wearing a medium) is in a gorgeous caramel shade and is perfect for fall! It’s soft, comfy, and stretchy—ideal for throwing on over a white tee and heading out the door. This blazer is versatile, gurls, and trust me; you’ll find yourself reaching for it whether you’re headed to lunch with friends or a quick meeting. The blazer also comes in a gorgeous green and wine, both are fall colors.
The Pima Stretch Knit Tank (medium) is an “essential item” every capsule wardrobe needs. It’s soft, breathable, and works under jackets, cardigans, and everything in between. The cotton blend fabric makes it super comfortable, and you know I love pieces that offer both comfort and style. This tank looks fabulous with the sweater blazer but would be perfect with a denim jacket for casual days.
These Relaxed Chino Wide-Leg Pants (size 8) are perfect for a fall capsule wardrobe! They’re comfy, chic, and a bit different from your typical jeans. The relaxed fit and wide leg are so flattering, and the olive color just screams fall! The waistband is super comfortable, which is key when you’re running errands or heading out for a full day of activities.
I added the Dark Brown Ankle Boots (TTS) and Calf Hair Leopard Belt (Large) to the outfit to add some fall trends. Adding a few trends to your capsule wardrobe will keep you looking modern and youthful.
Now, let’s talk about texture! This navy Cotton-Gauze Fringe Jacket (medium) is lightweight and perfect for layering! It has that boho vibe I love, but it’s still polished enough to wear out and about. I threw it on with jeans the other day and got so many compliments! The fringe detail adds something fun to your look, without feeling over the top. It’s a great combination for those mild fall days when you’re running errands or meeting a friend for coffee.
Adding Stripes To A Fall Capsule Wardrobe
Here’s a casual and comfy look with a fun striped tee and cropped denim jeans! I love the button details on the sleeves of the tee—it adds a cute touch to a simple outfit. Paired with comfy loafers, this look is ideal for a relaxed day of shopping or spending time with the grandkids.
Stripes, anyone? The Individualist Shirt (Medium) is classic and versatile, perfect for adding a little pattern to your wardrobe. I love how breathable and comfortable it is—great for those warmer fall days. If you’re like me and always running errands or meeting friends for coffee, this shirt is a great grab-and-go option.
These High-Rise Demi-Boot Ankle Jeans (Size 8) are a fun twist on classic denim. They hit right at the ankle, which makes them perfect for showing off cute shoes like my Dolce Vita Loafer Mules. The high-rise waist provides comfort and a flattering fit, while the slight flare at the hem gives these jeans a modern, youthful vibe. I love how versatile they are—you can dress them up with a jacket or keep it casual with a tee!
This striped shirt is so easy to wear! It pairs perfectly with cropped jeans for a laid-back look that still feels put-together. Whether you’re heading out for brunch or just enjoying some downtime, this outfit is perfect for staying comfy while looking chic.
If you’re a fan of stripes, you’re going to love this Striped Button-Sleeve Tee (Medium). It’s casual but has fun button details on the sleeves, which I love. The cotton blend fabric makes it so comfortable, and it’s great for layering under jackets or cardigans. It is comfy and cute and perfect for days when you want to relax in style. You could easily dress this tee up with a navy blazer for an elevated casual look.
Dark Wash Jeans For A Fall Capsule Wardrobe
This casual look is perfect for everyday wear! The blue/green henley top is soft and comfy, and it pairs beautifully with high-rise flare jeans. The outfit feels laid-back but still stylish, making it a go-to for casual outings or a day spent outdoors.
The Smocked-Sleeve Henley Top (Medium) is such a cute, casual option for fall! The smocked detail on the sleeves adds a fun and feminine touch to a classic henley style. It’s one of those easy-to-wear pieces that fit perfectly into J.Jill’s Fall Capsule Wardrobe. It’s soft, comfy, and lightweight, making it perfect for layering under jackets or wearing on its own during those milder fall days.
I love the relaxed fit and how easy it is to pair with jeans or chinos for an effortless, everyday look. The top looks more blue in my photos than in person. It’s the same blue/green color as the striped tee above.
Flare jeans are back, and I am here for it! These High-Rise Flare Jeans (Size 8) are flattering for all shapes and sizes, thanks to their high-waist design that accentuates the waist and elongates the legs. The flare at the bottom adds a touch of retro style while still feeling totally current. It doesn’t matter if you’re pairing them with a simple top or layering with a quilted jacket, these jeans will become a go-to for the season.
For chilly fall mornings, the Diamond-Quilted Curved-Hem Jacket (Medium) is just what you need. It’s lightweight but warm, and the curved hem gives it a flattering shape. The quilted detail adds a nice texture without being too bulky, making it one of my favorite outerwear pieces from J.Jill’s Fall Capsule Wardrobe. And it has pockets, Gurls! The jacket, paired with flare jeans, adds a little retro vibe.
Denim-on-denim is a classic combo, and the navy jacket pulls it all together. This look is both casual and chic, with the jacket’s relaxed fit adding just the right amount of comfort. It’s a perfect outfit for a casual day out, especially when paired with dark brown ankle boots.
The classic chambray One-Pocket Button-Front Shirt (Medium) is a wardrobe staple, and it looks great here with denim jeans. I love how simple yet polished this outfit is—perfect for those days when you want to look put-together but stay comfy. Plus, the lightweight fabric is ideal for layering!
Add Some Texture To Your Wardrobe
I’m all about this relaxed yet polished look with the open-texture cardigan and denim A-line skirt. The long skirt gives the outfit a casual feel, while the cardigan keeps it lightweight and comfortable. This is the perfect fall outfit for staying cozy while still looking stylish!
You gurls know I love a good cardigan! The Open-Texture Cardi (Medium) is light enough to layer, but still warm. It’s great for throwing on over just about anything, and the neutral color means it’ll match about anything in J.Jill’s Fall Capsule Wardrobe. The open texture adds a little extra interest so that you can pair it with more basic pieces. I will probably wear the cardigan with the flare jeans, but I hadn’t photographed the skirt yet, so I styled it with the cardigan.
I wore a Black Perfect Shelf-Bra Tank (Large) under the cardigan. I’ve worn the tank before, but in a medium which was way too tight. The large fits me better, but I think it is still too tight for me to wear alone. So, I’ll be ordering an XL in black and white. I love the look of the tank, and I want to be able to wear it with shorts, etc., without having to layer it underneath something.
This Denim A-Line Maxi Skirt (Size 8) is a beautiful, timeless piece for fall. The A-line shape is flattering, providing plenty of movement and comfort. I love how easy it is to dress up or down—pair it with boots and a cardigan for a cozy fall look, or keep it casual with a simple tank. Plus, the length is perfect for staying warm while still looking stylish!
I don’t wear black shoes too often, thanks to a cousin who made fun of my “large” feet. He used to tell me that I needed to back up to a door to knock on it. However, I already have the Blondo® Sinner Booties (TTS) in tan, and I liked them so much that I also bought them in black. These will fill a void that is missing from my fall wardrobe.
This season, J.Jill’s Fall Capsule Wardrobe really has everything you need. Each piece is comfortable, stylish, and versatile—perfect for ladies who want to look chic without sacrificing comfort. I know these items will be on repeat in my closet, and I’m sure they’ll be staples in yours, too! Here are more items you might like to add.

As we head into the cooler months, one of the first switches many of us will make pertains to footwear. Swapping out sandals and flimsy flats for shoes that are sturdier and, when called for, more weather-resistant, becomes a priority. Often, getting your shoes right means that you can extend the lifespan of your more summery clothes, too, as the correct autumnal shoe choice will make them feel more seasonally relevant. That said, that doesn’t mean basic black leather boots are your only option from here on out.
In 2024, colour has played a huge role in dictating the trends, especially where accessories are concerned. And right now, shoes in the right colours have the power to make anything you wear with them feel more current and stylish. So, which shoe colour trends are in for autumn 2024? I’ve found six shades that will ensure you put your best foot forward every day for the next few months (and beyond). Scroll on to see them.
6 Autumn Shoe Colour Trends to Try in 2024
1. Fiery Red
Style Notes: We’ve seen variations of red tones peak in popularity this year (we’ll be discussing another one in a minute) but true, zingy red hues are having a moment right now. Worn with neutral outfits, in shoe form, they’ll give your looks a very chic talking point. What’s more, this shade of red is always in, so you’ll come to rely on them for years to come.

2. White and Ecru
Style Notes: I always used to think white shoes looked a little cheap. I put this down to the fact I used to buy just that—very cheap pairs—in my teens and early twenties; the memory of the tacky white shoes I owned seared in my mind. However, thanks to refined silhouettes and slighter warmer undertones of white, I now realise just how chic and stylish-looking white shoes and boots can be. Styling is key, here, too—I certainly won’t be wearing them with the bodycon dresses I also favoured in 2005.

3. Brown
Style Notes: One of the biggest colour trends of all of 2024 has to be brown. With elegance being the dominating aesthetic, brown swiftly came to the fore as the old-money-looking alternative to black. The idea has stuck as we head into autumn, too—prime brown-wearing season—and now, everywhere I look, fashionable people are wearing brown shoes.

4. Glossy Black
Style Notes: Black shoes will never be out, but I get that they might not seem like the most exciting thing to put on your feet when you want to look and feel fashionable. However, I do think that the patent finishes we’re seeing so much of this autumn will do just that! Glossy and sophisticated, patent shoes look inherently expensive.

5. Burgundy
Style Notes: If brown is the biggest colour trend of 2024. burgundy has to be a very, very close second. As I stated at the start of this article, red has been big news this year in general, and the latest iteration of it is this rich wine shade, which we’ve been take over bags and shoes alike. Arguably more versatile than its brighter sister shade, this is a colour that will work in any wardrobe.

6. Unexpected Green
Style Notes: Fashion people know that throwing in an expected shoe colour here and there will make their outfits feel even more directional. And right now that colour of choice is green. Blame it on Brat or the fact Prada’s satin mules have been trending since the start of the year—either way, the shade is much more prevalent for autumn 2024 than it’s ever been!
This week we published our 3000th blog post on my blog, and it’s incredible to think that some of you may still be reading after 13 years of daily blogging. Naturally, I’ve learned a thing or two over this much time and dedication. As I reflected on my biggest learnings, I realized that committing to one idea—blog every day (every weekday to be specific, though we often post on the weekends too)—has completely changed me. I believe these lessons can resonate with everyone, so I hope you enjoy reading them. Thank you so much for being part of my journey.
1. Consistency + Volume = Growth
The real value of consistency lies in how it drives growth and improvement. By committing to showing up every day, you’re constantly pushing your boundaries and honing your craft. The sheer volume of work you produce over time allows you to see progress, identify strengths, and improve in ways you couldn’t achieve through sporadic efforts.
2. Algorithms shift, but connecting authentically stays key
While social media and search algorithms evolve constantly, the need to connect with your audience on a human level remains the same. Prioritizing authenticity and engagement over chasing trends is always a sound strategy.
3. If it’s not a “Hell, Yes!” it’s a “No”
Time and focus are your most valuable resources. If a project, idea, or collaboration doesn’t excite you, it’s better to pass on it. Saying “no” to things that don’t serve you allows you to invest fully in the things that do.
4. Learn to do everything yourself, then ask for help when you become the bottleneck
In the beginning, knowing how to handle every aspect of your blog is empowering and helps you understand the process deeply. But as you grow, recognize when your involvement is slowing things down and don’t hesitate to delegate.
5. Have a partner that’s invested in your success
A partner, whether personal or professional, who believes in your vision is essential. Their support and feedback can help you stay motivated, and having someone invested in your journey makes the wins sweeter and the challenges easier to face.
6. Own as many of your channels as possible
Relying solely on platforms you don’t control (like social media) is risky, as algorithms and policies can change overnight. Owning your channels—such as your website, email list, or podcast—gives you full control over how and when you engage with your audience, ensuring long-term stability.
7. Spend lots of time and money on branding and design
First impressions matter, and your blog’s branding is often the first touchpoint for your audience. Good design and a clear brand identity build trust and make your content more accessible and attractive.
8. Falling into habits is OK. Being unwilling to break them is not
Routines can be helpful in maintaining consistency, but they shouldn’t become restrictive. Being flexible and open to changing habits when needed is key to growth and staying relevant.
9. Understand the business you’re in and where you fit in it
You can’t just blog in a vacuum. Understand the broader industry, your competition, and how you add unique value. Knowing where you fit helps you make smarter strategic decisions about your content and growth.
10. Connect with a bigger mission
Blogging can be draining over time, especially if it’s purely self-serving. Connecting your work to a larger purpose or mission gives you a sense of fulfillment and direction that keeps you going even on tough days.
11. Experiment, track, and tweak. It’s the only way to know why you got better
You won’t improve without deliberate experimentation. Constantly testing new ideas and analyzing what works helps you refine your approach and understand what drives your success. Try to take an analytical approach.
12. Big goals push you to grow and achieve more.
Pursuing ambitious goals, like launching a product or collaborating with a brand, forces you to stretch beyond your comfort zone. These larger initiatives come with obstacles and deadlines that push you to grow, stay disciplined, and ultimately achieve more than you would through small, incremental efforts alone.
13. Reinvent yourself boldly
Growth often requires change, and evolving your content or direction can sometimes result in losing followers who no longer resonate with your new focus. However, following your natural changes can attract a new, more aligned audience. The key is to embrace this evolution rather than staying stuck out of fear of losing people who may no longer be a fit.
Today, we’re diving into the world of pointed heels and flats – a style that’s as classic as it is chic. If you’re not a fan of pointed toes, hear me out. They instantly elongate your legs, giving you that tall, sleek look without even trying – who doesn’t love a little extra height, right? They also have a way of making any outfit look more polished and put-together, whether you’re in jeans or a dress. Plus, pointy shoes are super versatile, easily transitioning from day to night and casual to formal. And let’s be honest, they just have a chic, sophisticated vibe. If you’re all about that comfy flat life or love a bit of height with your heels, I’ve found some pointed flats and heels you’re sure to love.

Slingbacks
Slingbacks and kitten heels are trending, and I love that they have a dressy look without the extra heel height. They are chic and fashionable, and the straps are comfortable to wear. Square-toe shoes are trending, but these mules have pointy toes, and they will make your legs look a mile long. Mules and slingbacks are great transition shoes to fall since the back is open, but the toe is closed.
Loafers
For those of you who prefer flats, I’m including these loafers. There are times when we have to compromise on style for comfort and safety, but this isn’t one of them. These are soft and comfortable, and the color is perfect for wearing with all your fall clothing.
Knee High Boots
Knee-high boots are perfect for adding a touch of sophistication to any outfit while keeping your legs warm and toasty. You can go for a sleek leather pair for a polished look or opt for a cozy suede style for a more laid-back vibe; knee-high boots are incredibly versatile. Pair them with everything from dresses to leggings, and you’ll be effortlessly stylish all season long. I wasn’t expecting the comfort level to be so high on these boots. It might be partly because I mistakenly ordered the wide calf, but I’m not mad. Lol!
Pointed Flats and Heels I’m Loving from Talbots
Gurls, these leopard calf hair flats are purr-fectly cute! lol. I couldn’t help myself. The fun animal print adds a touch of wild to any outfit, and they are so easy to slip on and off. Pair them with your favorite ankle pants or a cute skirt for a stylish look. These flats come in other colors too, so if leopard isn’t your thing, you have options. Plus, they’re super comfy for walking around – trust me, you’ll be strutting in style all day long!
Now, these metallic flats are a real GEM. lol. Sorry, I’ll stop now. Flat shoes don’t have to be boring! These add a bit of style to your step without being too flashy. I think these would look amazing with a simple dress or even jeans. The metallic finish is just the right amount of shine. And the best part? They have memory foam and arch support, so you can dance the night away without worrying about sore feet. You can’t go wrong with Talbots. It’s always a safe bet.
Same style, different look! There’s a reason people long for comfortable flat shoes, but comfort doesn’t mean you can’t be fashionable! The rich color is perfect for fall and pairs beautifully with everything from jeans to dresses. Black is a classic but they also come in a deep burgundy. They have a low heel for a bit of lift but are still about comfort, and the straps mean they won’t be slipping off. I love the sleek design and the fact that they come in other shades, too. Plus, they are available in half-sizes. A must-have for any wardrobe!
Pointed Flats and Heels With A Bit of Heel
These gold metallic low heels are like a little piece of pizzazz for your feet! The low heel gives you a bit of height without the pain of higher heels – win-win! They add a touch of elegance to any outfit, whether it’s for a fancy dinner or just a day out shopping. And, of course, the gold color is simply gorgeous. These are available in a ton of other colors. If you have wider feet, try the black. They come in wide sizes. You’ll feel like a million bucks in these!
Ah, the classic navy kitten heel – timeless and chic! These are perfect for adding a bit of sophistication to your look. Hudson said I look like a movie star in these, lol! They’re not too high, so they’re great for everyday wear or special occasions. The navy color is versatile and goes with so many outfits. Plus, they have a comfy fit, so you can wear them all day without any issues. Consider going down a half size if you have narrow feet.
Pointed Flats and Heels With High Heels
Ladies, these bling heels are all about the sparkle! Perfect for when you want to add some glam to your outfit. Going to any evening weddings? These would make a gorgeous statement. Great for parties or a night out, these heels will definitely make you stand out. Reviwers say they are comfortable too, with a nice sturdy heel. And if bling isn’t your thing, they come in other colors as well.
Every gurl needs a classic black pump in her closet, and these are just perfect! They’re sleek, stylish, and go with everything. Perfect for work or a night out, these pumps are versatile and timeless. If you order and love them, get them in other classic colors, too. Available in navy, nude, and even metallic. They have a comfortable heel height and a nice fit. You’ll feel confident and elegant in these beauties!
Now, for those who love a bit of drama, these stiletto high heels are bringing the glamour! Gurls, there’s just something that happens when you put on a great pair of heels. Instant elegance. They’re high but you can’t wear ballet flats or loafers all of the time!. Great for special occasions or when you just want to feel fabulous. The sleek design is ultra-chic and will definitely turn heads. Also available in other colors, so you can find the perfect pair for any outfit.
Last but not least, these slingback high heels are a perfect mix of style and comfort. Can you believe they’re from Walmart? They have a sleek design and a high heel that’s still easy to walk in. I think they’re perfect for any occasion. The slingback style keeps them secure and comfortable on your feet. They come in various colors, so you can find the perfect match for your wardrobe.

Our August holiday is over, Gerben is back to work and I’m back in my rhythm. We had such a wonderful time, I always get a little sad when it’s over. Mainly because when we’ve been home for a week or two, we start feeling homesick to Rye again. Gerben usually takes two weeks’ holiday in the spring and autumn. In between we go away for nights in our own country.
Our August holiday
Seals in Rye harbour. We have been going to Rye for sooooo long and this was the first time we saw them!
Scotney castle, it was actually a ruin
Garden at Scotney castle, such beautiful colours

Since I can no longer fly, we go to Rye, England, several times a year. We always stay in the same B&B and eat in the same restaurants. And we actually always do the same things there. Sounds terribly boring to most people, but we really enjoy being in Rye and feel very much at home there. Many of the guests who come to the B&B are regulars and we already know many of the guests. And also the staff and locals in the pub! This way we don’t feel like tourists there at all and that is exactly what makes it so nice for us. I’m going to tell you what we did during the holidays.
Our August holiday started on Saturday the 24th of August and on Sunday we went to Rye. That means a 3,5 hour drive to France, 2 hours on the ferry and then a hour drive to Rye. On the day of arrival, usually we arrive around 02.00 pm., after unpacking and catching up, we go to the nature reserve to get some fresh air by the sea. This holiday was early for us, normally we go two weeks later. So it was also still very busy in Rye. But it’s good to be in the nature reserve to unwind.
What we do in Rye area when you have been there for over 20 times……
Hastings beach
The best food for when you are at the beach!
We played adventure golf and I won!
The best steak and ale pie ever at The Standard in Rye
The next day we went to Scotney Castle. Very beautiful surroundings and we had never been there before. We do have seen more beautiful castles, like Hever and Leeds castle. The next two days we spent time in Hastings. I think Hastings is a wonderful city. I know it is a poor town, but I just love the old promenade and the authentic fish shops. Old town is becoming more and more beautiful with many second-hand shops and great places to have lunch.
What is very nice to visit if you want to see something of the area, is Lewes. A lovely little town with much antique shops. Brighton is a amazing city with a great vibe. You can hire bicycles in Rye and cycle through the little villages. Arundel Castle is amazing. Bateman’s House is nice, Canterbury is very interesting and I can name so many more!
The promenade is hip and trendy with coffee and lunch spots. Mostly vegan, especially at Goat Ledge you can have a delicious lunch! Usually we walk for about three hours, me in the wheelchair of course, we have lunch and then go to the beach. I do some reading, Gerben takes a dip in the sea and we eat fish & chips on the beach in the evening. We always only stay five days because we don’t want to burden our friends too much with taking care of the cats. They come twice a day to pamper them.
At the open air museum in Arnhem
Going back in time there
With my father’s wife at dinner
Lunch on the first cycling day. Because Gerben had a flat tire we were much to late for lunch, but we were so hungry………our eyes were more hungry then our stomache
So this post is mostly interesting for me, as a memory, lol
On the day of departure we always go to the nature reserve and walk to Winchelsea where we have lunch. Then it’s off to Dover and crying on the boat when I see the beautiful coast of my beloved England disappear again.
It was my birthday during the holidays, when we were back home, and I actually never celebrate it. But the weather was still so nice that I felt like celebrating with family and friends and a bbq! What a successful day that was! We ate and chatted until late in the evening. During our August holiday we also went to the open-air museum with my father’s wife and had dinner afterwards. We went cycling for two days. Gerben got a flat tire on the first day, so he also walked an hour to the bicycle repair shop.
We went to visit friends who moved north. We had a nice chat and lunch. And on the last day of our holiday we went out for dinner to end it. As you can see, good food plays a big role in our lives, lol. We had a great holiday! And now back to working out, healthy eating, and regularity!
This is my favourite lunch in our country, kroketten op brood! Not very healthy though, but I let health go when we are on vacation
Reading in the sun on the last day of our vacation
Dinner on our last evening. This was unbelievably delicious. Tuna!
Gorgeous last sunset
