Polo perfection: ad a feminine touch to your look

Polo perfection: ad a feminine touch to your look

Polo perfection: ad a feminine touch to your look

I always think there’s something cool about a polo, but there is such a thing as polo perfection. And of course I don’t mean a polo with a polo player’s logo on it. That’s too posh for my style. And you know that I love contrast in an outfit. So a cool polo with a feminine skirt. I first wanted to say, yes, a skirt is always feminine. But that’s not the case these days anymore, haha, now I really sound like an old woman. I am…..

How to wear a polo to perfection?

monochrome green outfit

A polo has always had a certain look. But of course it does depend on the material, the colour and the way you wear it. I mean, polo perfection is also when worn with a classic pair of trousers and expensive brogues. But that is not the perfection I am seeking for. The polo of course comes from the sport of polo, which dates back to the 19th century. The players tied a collar to their shirt and the buttons prevented the collar from flapping up and down while galloping. Funny right! Lacoste designed the polo as we know it today.

Polo’s like the original ones are not cool in my eye. I see men in red trousers before me in polo and thinking…..nah……not cool. Middle aged women in culottes and polo……nah…..not cool. It’s a dressy look, nothing wrong with it, but not for me. So how to wear a polo and not look posh, but a bit cool?

How I wear a polo

polo perfection

With a skirt of course! I think a pleated skirt with a hip pass is super beautiful and super feminine. I don’t know if this is the correct translation, but I mean a waistband that follows the curve of the hips and is longer than a regular waistband. This is especially nice with pleated skirts because you don’t immediately have the pleats starting from the belly.

This set is one of the few new clothes I bought this season. The golden espadrilles are from last year. After black, green is my favourite color. The colour of nature! The skirt is a beautiful pistachio green. The only disadvantage is that there are no pockets in it. But the colour and design more than make up for it. The bit posh look of the polo fit perfect with a skirt like this. And because of the khaki colour it’s pretty cool right? So polo perfection for me!

I am wearing green earrings that are very old but the colour always looks fabulous. It is the perfect shade of green. And gold and green bracelets, the gold comes back in the espadrilles that I bought last year for Celina’s wedding. I learned that if you wear a certain colour in your accessories, it’s best to wear it in uneven numbers. So like the golden espadrilles, and the bracelet and my necklace. It’s more pleasant to the eye. I believe that is true.

Best Brands and Deals to Shop on QVC

Best Brands and Deals to Shop on QVC

When my daughter was born, my husband and I moved to a town for his job and I didn’t know a single person. I had a newborn and I was a stay-at-home mom so I felt lonely and isolated during this period. The funny thing is that I found “friendship” through a television show.

That show was QVC, which stands for Quality, Value, and Convenience. QVC launched in 1986 and my daughter was born in 1987 so they were a young company when I became a fan. I would watch the program all day long and I felt like I was actually friends with the hosts of the program. I was way too shy to ever call in, but I dreamed of getting on the telephone and talking to Mary Beth Roe.

One of my favorite things now is that you can shop QVC online! They carry SO many big brands that I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites. You can save majorly on lots of beauty, fashion, home brands, and more. If you want to see the full list of brands that QVC carries, you can click here! You can use code WELCOME30 for $30 off $60+ purchases for first-time customers!

Dr. Denese:

I was surprised to learn that Dr. Adrienne Denese was one of the world’s first doctors to specialize in skin care products that help address the visible signs of aging. She trained at Harvard and Cornell! I have heard amazing things about her products and will be trying and sharing them this month. From moisturizers to serums, eye treaments, and sets, her line has it all. This kit is one of the best ways to try the brand I think! I also love that the brand is also part of QVC’s Clean Beauty program!

Elemis:

Elemis is a well known brand that is highly rated. You’ve likely heard someone talk about their Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm. This pro-collagen cream is perfect for both day and night use and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while boosting skin hydration and firmness. I’ve also heard really good things about their Dynamic Resurfacing Pads.

IT Cosmetics:

This is another brand that really seemed to skyrocket with the help of QVC and has become one that many women use. Their CC+ Cream Foundation, Brow Pencils, and Waterproof Eye Shadow Sticks are some of the brand’s best sellers. If you already are using the brand, I’d definitely recommend checking to see if any of the products are currently on a deal!

Beekman 1802:

I’ve seen this brand carried at Ulta and have been very tempted to try it! They are known for their hand soaps and hand creams made with goat milk. I could see placing these around the house so that my hands could stay hydrated no matter where I was washing them.

Fashion Brands at QVC

NYDJ:

NYDJ, which stands for “Not Your Daughter’s Jeans,” specializes in creating jeans with a focus on fit and comfort for women of all ages and body types. I did a full review on some of my favorite pairs in this post last year. But right now, I’m eyeing this denim skirt for fall! They have been trending, and I know this one would be comfy.

PS-Don’t forget to order one size down in the jeans. They are extremely stretchy, and I can see how they would stretch out after a full day of wear.

Breezies:

This is a new brand that I discovered a few years ago. I know none of us love wearing a bra, so I’m always on the hunt for a good wire-free one. This one is seamless and has soft contouring cups, so it doesn’t look like you have a uni-boob!!

Best Brands and Deals to Shop on QVC

Clarks:

If you’re looking for a pair of comfy shoes, Clarks is one of the best brands. These leather sandals are so comfortable and have great arch support. I’m wearing my usual size, but I suggest sizing up if you are between sizes. The other pair that caught my eye were these boots for fall. They would go with everything and are at a good price!

Vionic:

It’s no secret that I have loved Vionic shoes for years! I even have this post dedicated to my favorite Vionic shoes. If you have any sort of foot issue, chances are that you’ve already heard of them. They can be on the pricier side, so I love it when I find them on a deal at QVC.

Ex-CIA analyst accused of working for S. Korea for luxury handbags

Ex-CIA analyst accused of working for S. Korea for luxury handbags

US prosecutors have indicted a former CIA analyst and White House official on charges she worked as an agent of the South Korean government in exchange for designer handbags, high-priced dinners and other luxury goods.

Louis Vuitton handbag

Sue Mi Terry failed to register as a foreign agent and disclosed US government information to South Korean intelligence, according to the 31-page indictment filed Monday at a federal court in New York.

“At the direction of ROK Government officials, Terry advocated ROK policy positions … disclosed nonpublic US Government information to ROK intelligence officers, and facilitated access for ROK Government officials to US Government officials,” according to the indictment, which referred to South Korea by its official acronym.

In return for her services, Terry’s South Korean handlers gifted her a $3,450 Louis Vuitton handbag, a $2,950 Bottega Veneta handbag, and a $2,845 Dolce & Gabbana coat, as well as other goods, according to the indictment.

She was also taken to “multiple” Michelin-starred restaurants and provided with $37,000 in covert payments to a think tank where she worked.

The indictment includes security camera images showing Terry meeting her South Korean handlers in Washington stores to be gifted luxury handbags.

Besides the CIA, Terry, who is a senior fellow for Korea studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, also worked on the White House National Security Council.

Terry, who was employed by the US government from 2001 to around 2011, allegedly began her work for South Korea in 2013 and continued it for a decade despite being warned in 2014 by FBI agents that South Korean intelligence might try to approach her.

Her lawyer, Lee Wolosky, denied the allegations.

“These allegations are unfounded and distort the work of a scholar and news analyst known for her independence and years of service to the United States,” Wolosky said in a statement quoted by US media.

According to the indictment, Terry is a naturalized US citizen who was born in South Korea’s capital of Seoul and raised in Virginia and Hawaii.

Dark Colours-The Thrifty Six – Nancys Fashion Style

Dark Colours-The Thrifty Six – Nancys Fashion Style

Dark Colours-The Thrifty Six – Nancys Fashion Style

Dark colours is our theme for this month chosen by Jodie. Which is pretty surprising as Jodie is more for the summer and bright colours. But hey, I am not complaining! I am all for dark colours! And guess which colour I chose! Of course my favourite one!

Welcome to The Thrifty Six. We are a group of international fashion influencers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we will all share an outfit based on a theme that features pre loved wardrobe pieces. Shopping and reselling pre loved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to shop second hand.

Dark colours are my signature style

dark colours in summer

Now that’s a theme to my heart! I didn’t have to think long and hard for that one. Black is my favourite colour, also in summer, and green is next! And although a lot of people say that black isn’t a colour, for me it is.

The pre loved item is the skirt, bought on Vinted. Very cheap, as new, and the seller told me I could also pick it up at her house as it was just two minutes away! Win win. It’s a very swoosy skirt and pretty thin so I need to remind myself to wear a underskirt with it!

Emma of  Style Splash

black tee and printed skirt in summer

I rarely wear dark colours, especially in summer, so this was a departure from my usual style. The starting point was this skirt that I bought in a charity shop for £6 (from Monki). Then I remembered these shoes (also £6 from a charity shop) that pick out the tan in the skirt’s print. I kept the dark theme by adding a black top that I bought on holiday and finished off the outfit with a tan bucket bag.

Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style

dark colours in summer

Even though I usually wear color, color and more color, I like the idea of thinking about the opposite of what we normally wear. For me, that’s dark colors especially in the summer.
I had the three of us use three different ways to incorporate dark colors as part of a summer look, and mine was with whimsy.
Thus the thrifted tulle skirt with print mixing and a secondhand lunch box as my purse. I even incorporated wearing a scarf in the outfit but not the traditional way.”

Jane of preloved_vintage_handmade

monochrome black outfit in summer

Dark Colours’ is the T6 theme for July and I’m going all out with black black black!

I love black for summer, it makes such a statement; then adding texture just brings it to life…

…I’m mixing quilted leather, ribbed jersey, satin, wool and an interesting stud effect on my jacket.

Elevated with jet and silver jewellery it’s so far from being dull…

…black is the brightest colour in the summer sun!

Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge

dark colours

Like last month, the big box of preloved beautiful that Daenel sent to me had what I needed for this thrifty challenge. This gorgeous dark brown and deep red wrap skirt and kimono robe in shades of brown suited the dark colors theme perfectly. I added an olive green tank top, my tall brown moccasins, two layered wooden animal necklaces, and leopard print earrings…all picked up at thrift stores or flea markets. The only part of my outfit that was not preloved is my hat which I altered by adding an olive green fabric belt as a coordinating hat band.

Sally of Within a World of My Own

dark colours in summer

There are a couple ways I like to style dark colors in summer:
Lightened up with white: In the left outfit, I paired a dark top half (thrifted dark teal blouse and black cardigan) with a contrasting, white-based thrifted floral skirt, a less-expected inversion of the more typical white T + dark print skirt outfit formula.

Brightened up with an accent color: In the right outfit, I picked up the green color from the black-based thrifted floral skirt with a simple T.

collage of The Thrifty Six

A great theme to wear something different in summer. That’s what a collaboration with other bloggers or Instagrammers is all about! To challenge yourself and your style. And we do it pre loved too! Hope to see you again next month.

Gratitude Reconsidered, Or, Saturday Morning at 8:43am

Gratitude Reconsidered, Or, Saturday Morning at 8:43am

I’ve always struggled with Internet Gratitude. Feels too much like mayonnaise on a lens; smearing over life’s hardships so as not to mind the things that everyone does, in fact, mind. And in my darkest moments, Internet Gratitude for women looks like a tool of oppression. “No, we won’t listen to you, we won’t acknowledge your labor, now go in the corner and feel grateful for this wilted daisy in a jar. Drat, we forgot the Smuckers label.” Not my nature, that.

When I was young, admonishments to be grateful felt like shaming. I knew I was fortunate, who would not, but still I struggled as young people do and in trying to remember gratitude I’d skip right to mortification. Only a jerk would feel bad amid such abundance.

But after these last several years of painful events, no need to reiterate what they were, I feel differently. Gratitude is neither rose-pink nor umber, shameful. Gratitude, I now find to be more of a real happiness limned with sorrow which you may not be experiencing at the moment but know pretty well. Better than you might want to. When I am grateful now I am precisely because I know nothing’s guaranteed.

Somewhere between honey and vinegar. Maybe a very ripe orange, leaves attached.

Have a wonderful weekend. Nothing is guaranteed and good moments are good.

How to Dress for Fall When It’s Warm Outside

How to Dress for Fall When It’s Warm Outside

Getting dressed in a warmer climate from early August to October can be quite a challenge. Schools are back in session, your favorite brands have released their fall clothing lines, and Halloween decor is filling up the shelves, making you feel like it’s time for booties and sweaters. But, surprise—it’s still a sweltering 90 degrees! Should you stick with shorts and tank tops or sweat it out in a cardigan? Today, let’s talk about how to dress for fall when it’s still warm outside. I’ve got some great tips to help you stay stylish, comfy, and cool during this tricky transition!

Looking for more fall fashion? Visit these posts:

How to Dress for Fall When It’s Warm Outside

Add a Splash of Fall Color

Crewneck Boxy Rib T-Shirt (Small) | Rib Wide Leg Ankle Pants (Small) | Colette Large Hoop Earrings | Lex Chain Necklace in Gold | Lex Chain Bracelet in Gold | Sam Edelman Pointed Toe Pump (TTS) | Large Kensington Quilted Suede & Leather Shoulder Bag

Warm weather shouldn’t keep you from adding fall colors to your wardrobe. It is a fun way to transition from summer to autumn without breaking a sweat.

Are you wondering what shades to add? I personally lean towards earth tones for my fall wardrobe. Those are rich browns, caramel/camel, olive and sage greens, and burnt oranges. I also like to look for jewel tones, which are deeper, bolder colors like emerald green, burgundy, sapphire blue, plum, and ruby red. In other words, I like all colors. Lol!

How to Dress for Fall When It’s Warm Outside
Cotton Crop T-Shirt (Large) – (Similar) | Flat Front Straight Leg Pants (Size 8) | Oversize Buckle Suede Belt (Medium) | Kitten Heel Pointed Toe Slingback Pump (Size 9)

These olive pants scream fall to me, but I’ll pair them with a short-sleeved shirt for the next few months to keep me cool! You could even switch this look by wearing a fall colored short sleeve top with a pair of chino or denim shorts. I always think of plaid during fall, so these kitten-heel slingback shoes are perfect.

White Sweater Vest (Size Medium)

Here’s a short sleeve sweater tank that I’ve been living in this summer. I love a cable-knit sweater, and this one is sooo soft! I loved it so much that I also bought it in white and pink. The medium fits me great, but I bought the white in large. I paired it with a breezy pair of jeans, but it also looks great with linen pants.

Cable Short Sleeve Sweater (Medium) | Linen Flowy Wide Leg Pants (Size Medium) | Sandal with Cork Footbed and Arch Support Footbed (Size 10-10.5) | Straw Handbag with Black Trim

Cozy sweaters, as long as they aren’t too hot, are an easy way to get a fall vibe. I’m wearing a black cable knit short-sleeve sweater, but it is also available in fall hues such as rust.

Black Charming Shell (Large) | Hustler High Waist Fray Hem Ankle Bootcut Jeans (Size 31) | Dr. Scholl’s Loafers (Size 9)

Choosing the right shoes can make all the difference in looking like you’re dressing for fall vs. summer. Nothing screams summertime like a pair of flip-flops, so it’s time to set those aside if you’re looking for autumn vibes. I know boots are what our minds go to when we envision fall outfits, but I’m here to tell you that a pair of flats will look cute for late summer and early fall!

Black Charming Shell (Large) | Hustler High Waist Fray Hem Ankle Bootcut Jeans (Size 31) | Camel Suede Loafer Mule TTS

Mules are a fantastic option because they have a closed toe, but they’re backless. This lets your feet breathe, unlike a pair of boots. They come in various styles and materials, from sleek leather to cozy suede, making them perfect for those in-between days. Pair them with everything from jeans to a denim skirt for an effortlessly chic look that’s both stylish and practical.

Retro Court Sneaker (TTS)

If you feel like it’s past the point of sandal territory, but you can’t bear to wear a pair of boots yet, throw on your sneakers! Sneakers are an all-season shoe, and they can honestly be worn with almost anything these days. I love a classic all-white sneaker, but you can also find sneakers in some great fall colors, like these tan Retro Court Sneakers from Rag & Bone.

Don’t Forget Fall Accessories

You don’t have to overhaul your entire closet to create a fall look. Instead, start with a few fall pieces like scarves, bags, or shoes in fall hues to add that seasonal vibe.

Are you looking forward to fall fashion? When do you switch over your wardrobe to the new season?
