Netizens react as Abhishek Sharma’s dazzling ton powers India to thumping win over Zimbabwe in 2nd T20I

In the second T20I of the India tour of Zimbabwe 2024 at Harare Sports Club, Team India showcased a commanding performance, securing a resounding 100-run victory over Zimbabwe. After winning the toss, India elected to bat first, setting a formidable total of 234/2 in their 20 overs.

Abhishek Sharma sizzles with a stunning century

Abhishek Sharma was the star of the Indian innings, smashing a scintillating century. He scored 100 runs off just 47 balls, featuring 7 fours and 8 sixes. His aggressive approach set the tone for India’s innings. Ruturaj Gaikwad provided solid support with a well-constructed 77 off 47 balls, including 11 boundaries and a six. Rinku Singh‘s explosive 48 off 22 balls, with 2 fours and 5 sixes, further bolstered India’s innings, helping them post a mammoth total.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled to contain the Indian batters. Blessing Muzarabani was the most economical, conceding 30 runs and taking one wicket in his four overs. Wellington Masakadza managed to pick up one wicket as well but conceded 29 runs in his two overs. The rest of the bowlers were taken apart by the Indian batters, with Luke Jongwe and Dion Myers being the most expensive, giving away 53 and 28 runs respectively.

Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar keep Zimbabwe batters at bay

Chasing 235, Zimbabwe never really got going and were bowled out for 134 in 18.4 overs. Wesley Madhevere top-scored for the hosts with 43 runs off 39 balls, hitting 3 fours and a six. Brian Bennett played a brief cameo, scoring 26 off 9 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes.  Jongwe added 33 off 26 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup faltered against a disciplined Indian bowling attack.

India’s bowlers were impressive, with Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar leading the way, each claiming three wickets. Avesh’s spell was particularly economical, conceding only 15 runs in his three overs. Ravi Bishnoi also contributed significantly with figures of 2/11 in his four overs, while Washington Sundar chipped in with a wicket, giving away 28 runs in his four overs.

Abhishek’s brilliant performance with the bat earned him the Player of the Match award. His century not only set up India’s massive total but also put Zimbabwe under immense pressure right from the start.
