Joe Root’s absolute blinder behind the keeper wows cricket world

England batter Joe Root came up with a sensational effort on the field in the ongoing third Test against the West Indies National Cricket Team. The last game of the series between the teams, which is also dead rubber, is underway at the Edgbaston in Birmingham.

England have come up with another good bowling performance in the ongoing game. The hosts, who are 2-0 up in the series, are looking like favorites to win another game. One of the major contributions from the ball yet again came from young pacer Gus Atkinson.

Gus Atkinson has bowled another sensational spell of fast bowling. He picked up four wickets in the first innings and helped his team restrict the opposition to a low total. But the credit for his four-wicket haul goes to Joe Root, who took a sensational catch to give the pacer his fourth wicket.

Gus Atkinson removed Gudakesh Motie to pick his fourth wicket, but it was Joe Root who came up with a magical effort. The fast bowler bowled a short ball to the batter and got forced into a tangle as he tried to fend it over his head after taking his eyes off the ball.

The ball flew off the splice towards the keeper, who tried his best to run back and grab it one-handed, but the ball went over his head. However, Joe Root, who was at the first slip seized an opportunity to grab the as he ran back even though he was blinded by the keeper.

Joe Root went back and put in a full-length dive to grab a stunner low to his right and take a screamer to send the batter packing. It made even Stuart Broad, who was commentating, say: “Don’t think I have seen a catch like that very often at all”

Here’s the video:

Gudakesh Motie ended with an innings of 8 runs off 8 balls. On the other hand, Gus Atkinson picked 4 wickets and ended with the figures of 4/67. With his wicket, West Indies lost their 9th wicket for just 259 runs inside the 71st over.

England end West Indies’ innings on 282 runs

West Indies National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bat first. Skipper Kraigg Braithwaite at the top played a vital innings and smashed a half-century. He scored 61 runs and was supported well by Mikyle Louis, who amassed 26 runs, as the duo added 76 runs for the opening partnership.

However, after that West Indies batters couldn’t get going as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Before Jason Holder (59) and Joshua De Silva (49) added 109 runs to bail the team out of trouble and take the team past the 200-run mark.

For England, apart from Gus Atkinson, Chris Woakes bagged 3 wickets while Mark Wood chipped in with two scalps. Based on the collective effort with the bat, they ended the West Indies innings on 282 runs inside 76 overs at the Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Fans react as West Indies mount a late fightback to put England under pressure on Day 1 of the 3rd Test

On Day 1 of the 3rd Test match at Edgbaston, Birmingham, West Indies faced a challenging start after being bowled out for 282 runs. Despite a resilient 61-run innings from Kraigg Brathwaite, who scored his half-century off 70 balls and hit 8 fours, West Indies struggled against England’s disciplined bowling attack. Gus Atkinson was particularly impressive, claiming four wickets, while Chris Woakes added three to his tally. West Indies initially looked strong, with Brathwaite and Mikyle Louis managing to negotiate the opening overs, but their innings faltered as England’s bowlers tightened their grip.

West Indies top order collapse

England capitalized on their bowling prowess, dismissing West Indies for 282 runs. After a solid start by Brathwaite and Louis, the West Indies innings unraveled quickly. England’s bowlers, led by Atkinson and Woakes, dismantled the middle and lower order. Following Brathwaite’s dismissal for 61, the West Indies collapsed from 76/0 to 115/5, with rapid wickets falling post-lunch. Woakes and Atkinson were instrumental in this collapse, causing West Indies to lose five wickets quickly, limiting their first-innings total.

Jason Holder and Joshua da Silva rescue West Indies

Jason Holder and Joshua Da Silva provided a much-needed rescue act for the West Indies, constructing a crucial unbroken 79-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Both players demonstrated resilience and maturity, with Holder scoring 59 and Da Silva contributing 49. Their efforts helped West Indies recover from a precarious position of 97/3 to a more respectable 194/5 by tea. Their partnership was key in stabilizing the innings and ensuring West Indies set a competitive total. However once both batters dismissed, the tailenders could not nothing much as the visitors were wrapped up under 300.

England’s response stalled by West Indies’ early breakthroughs

England’s reply began with difficulties as they lost three early wickets in their pursuit of West Indies’ total. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett fell to Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph respectively, with Duckett’s dismissal coming via an inside edge onto his own stumps. Mark Wood, who was promoted as a nightwatchman, was caught by Seales in the slips. England ended the day at 38/3, with Ollie Pope and Joe Root tasked with navigating a tricky period before stumps, leaving the match delicately poised.

Joe Root makes ‘lean patch’ remark on possibly breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most Test runs

England batter Joe Root has given his opinion on breaking Sachin Tendulkar‘s record to become the highest run-scorer in Test cricket. Root is in good form in the ongoing Test series between England and West Indies.

The 33-year-old smashed a brilliant hundred in the second innings of the second Test played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham to move to the eighth spot on the list of highest run-scorers in Test cricket. Root moved past West Indies great Shivnarine Chanderpaul to move ahead in the list.

All the batters who are above Root in this list have already retired some time ago and Root has a great chance of moving past all of them. In modern-day cricket, Root is already the highest run-getter in the longest format, way ahead of his competitor Steve Smith.

Joe Root breaks silence on breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record

During a chat with Sky Sports, Joe Root was asked about his journey in Test cricket and his feelings to be on the list of all-time greats.
“Yes, I mean when I walked out at Nagpur, I had never thought (of this achievement). I was just happy to play one game. So to be even spoken about in the same breath of all those amazing players, you have to pinch yourself a little bit really and almost waiting to wake up. So, I am very humble but yeah, it’s nice,” Root said.

The host of the show was former England fast bowler and Root’s old friend Stuart Broad. Broad asked Root whether he could surpass the No. 1 on the list Sachin Tendulkar. The England’s No. 4 responded that he needs to keep working out and concentrate on the present and not think too far ahead.

“Who knows? I’m probably going to go for a lean patch after doing all this and talking about it (jokes). To be honest, you just never know what is going to happen in the next couple of games. We have to just keep working out. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and see where you get to really,” Root added.

Joe Root – Highest overall run-scorer for England

Joe Root is one of the most successful batters this game has ever seen. He has scored 11940 runs in 142 Tests so far at an average of 49.95. Root has slammed 32 hundreds and 62 fifties in his Test career so far.

Among the English cricketers, Root is already the highest run-scorer overall. He has scored 19355 runs in 345 international matches so far at an average of 48.26. The second Englishman on the list, Alastair Cook, is almost 4000 runs behind Root on this list.

NOS vs TRT, The Hundred Men’s 2024: Match Prediction, Dream11 Team, Fantasy Tips and Pitch Report | Northern Superchargers vs Trent Rockets

The Hundred 2024 gets into full swing as the Northern Superchargers host the Trent Rockets in a mouthwatering clash at Headingley on Friday. Both sides will be eager to kickstart their campaign on a winning note, but it’s the Superchargers who will be under more pressure to deliver after finishing at the bottom of the table last season.

The Rockets, on the other hand, will be looking to build on their fifth-place finish. They possess a formidable batting lineup, with the likes of Alex Hales and Tom Banton capable of explosive starts. The experience of Sam Hain and Rovman Powell adds depth to their batting order. Their bowling attack, led by Rashid Khan, is also a potent force.

The Superchargers will be relying on their big-hitters, Nicholas Pooran and Jason Roy, to provide a solid foundation. The all-round abilities of Mitchell Santner and Adil Rashid will be crucial. Their bowling attack, featuring the likes of Reece Topley and Ben Dwarshuis, will need to be at their best to contain the Rockets’ firepower.

The Hundred Men’s 2024, NOS vs TRT, Match 4

  • Date and Time: July 26, 2024; 11 pm IST, 5:30 pm GMT
  • Venue: Headingley Cricket Ground, Manchester

The Headingley Pitch Report

The pitch at Headingley is generally expected to be a good batting surface. With the short format of The Hundred, batters can expect to find boundaries quickly. However, as the match progresses, the pitch might start to offer some assistance to the spinners.

The outfield is quick, which could aid the batters in scoring runs. While the conditions seem favorable for batting, bowlers will have to be accurate and vary their pace to be effective.

Overall, it’s a pitch that should produce a high-scoring encounter.
