‘We’re not gully cricket team’

As Pakistan try to pull off a miracle and qualify for the Super 8s stage in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024, their fast-bowler Shaheen Afridi has urged the fans to support the team.

Pakistan have kept their slim chances alive with a win over Canada earlier this week. The Men in Green have been facing severe criticism from their fans for their dismal display in the tournament so far. They began their competition with a shock loss against co-hosts. Pakistan lost the game against the USA in the Super Over.

Babar Azam & Co. had the perfect opportunity to redeem themselves by winning their second game against arch-rivals India. However, they came up with another disastrous display with the bat. Chasing 120 runs, Pakistan ended their innings on 113 for 7 to lose the game by six runs.

Following the losses, the fans have come down hard on the team and have slammed the players for their poor performance. However, Shaheen Afridi has urged the fans to back the team in tough times. In a strongly worded message to the fans, Afridi urged them to show their loyalty by supporting the team during the tough phase.

“Everyone supports you in good times, but I’ve always said that fans must support us in tough times. We are your team, not a gully cricket team or a team where players have been picked based on recommendations. If you can’t support the team now, you are just like the media,” said Shaheen Afridi in an interview with Cricwick.

Qualification scenario for Pakistan:

While Pakistan are not really in a good position in the T20 World Cup, their chances of making it to the next stage are still alive. For that to happen, they first need to win their final group game against Ireland. Pakistan had lost a T20I against Ireland last month and will be looking to avoid another upset.

Pakistan also need the USA to lose their game against Ireland to stay alive in the competition. If the USA manage to beat Ireland, they will be going to the next stage along with Team India from Group A. Canada are also alive in the competition but they will have to beat India by a big margin in their final group game to have any chance of progressing ahead of the USA and Pakistan.

Watch- Steve Taylor’s powerful six off Shivam Dube brutally hits security official in New York

United States of America (USA) batter Steven Tyalor kept his team in the game in the ongoing game against India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

United States of America have been asked to bat first and they were jolted with early blows as Arshdeep Singh removed two wickets in the first over and put his team at the top. But after that, Steven Taylor is making sure that he keeps battling hard for his team at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Steven Taylor took some time to get going but during the course of his innings, he also has played quite a few brilliant shots in his innings. But what caught the attention of many was the six that he hit off the Shivam Dube during the 9th over of the match.

Shivam Dube bowled a delivery that was a tad too short. USA batter Steven Taylor opened up his body and then thumped the pull-over mid-wicket that went sailing for a 77m six. But what caught the attention of many was six from him hit a security official at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

IND vs USA: Watch – Ali Khan bamboozles Rishabh Pant with a peach to leave India in tatters

India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant couldn’t make a bigger impact with the bat in the ongoing game against the United States of America (USA) in the T20 World Cup 2024. The 25th match of the tournament between the teams is underway at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

After India lost Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma early, Rishabh Pant took center stage and it seemed that he would continue his good form and take his team home. This was because the batter looked in great touch as he played some gorgeous shots in his innings.

Rishabh Pant was looking good but his stay at the crease was cut short by the brilliance of Ali Khan. The USA pacer bowled a sensational delivery to which the India keeper-batter had no answers and had to take the long walk back to the pavilion at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Ali Khan bowled a superb delivery that kept low and skidded through off the pitch from length. The ball angled back in after pitching on the middle stump and went under the bat as Rishabh Pant tried to defend. The ball crashed into the stumps to make a mess of it.

USA’s Indian-origin players express the special feeling of facing India in T20 World Cup 2024

World Cup ad

India will aim to secure a place in the Super Eight stage by facing co-hosts United States of America (USA) in a crucial T20 World Cup 2024 Group A match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

India’s quest for Super eight spot

With two consecutive wins in their initial matches, India need just one victory from their remaining two games to advance to the Super Eight. Despite this, the team led by Rohit Sharma will look to remain determined to uphold their winning streak and conclude their campaign in New York on a high note.

The upcoming match against the USA will mark India’s final appearance at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, with their last group fixture scheduled to take place in Canada in Florida. Furthermore, all T20 World Cup matches from the Super Eight stage onwards will be held in the West Indies.

USA’s strong momentum and special connection

The USA team also boasts an impressive winning streak, having secured victories in both of their initial matches. Requiring just one more win to qualify for the second round, they will also look to continue their winning momentum. Even if they lose the game, they will still have a game against Ireland.

Notably, several players in the USA T20 World Cup squad have Indian origins or have grown up in India, including individuals who have represented India at the U19 World Cup or have extensive experience in domestic cricket. These players have played a pivotal role in elevating the USA team’s performance, as evidenced by their notable victories against Canada and Pakistan in the ongoing global showpiece event.

USA’s Indian-origin players reflects on playing against India

As the USA gear up to face India, several Indian-origin players in the USA squad, speaking to Star Sports, have shared their unique perspectives on playing against a team they once dreamed of representing.

Saurabh Netravalkar, the former India U19 cricketer, reflected on the surreal experience of competing against top Indian cricketers. “Team India, welcome to the United States of America. If we play our best game, we can sort of compete against top cricketers. So we’ll try to take one game at a time and not get overwhelmed by the star-studded team players and try to bowl to a batsman or bat against a bowler. We’ll try to keep it simple,” he said.

Monank Patel, USA’s Gujarat-born captain, emphasized the high-pressure nature of the match and the excitement of facing Indian cricket legends. “You dream about this kind of thing and suddenly you see yourself with Rohit Sharma at the toss. It’s unreal. It’ll be a high-pressure game. Honestly, we don’t want to focus too much right now. We want to play the brand of cricket we want to play against all the teams,” he remarked.

Harmeet Singh, who has played alongside several Indian players at the U19 level, expressed his anticipation of reuniting with former teammates on the field. “Growing up, I used to look up to Rohit Sharma. Rohit comes from my school. I’ll take things as they come. Sanju Samson and Kuldeep Yadav, I have played U19 with them in India. Axar Patel, I’ve played with him as well. So, it’ll be fun catching up and playing against them as well,” he shared.
